We return to the 1100 block of 7th street to view the wide breadth of styles that were so freely employed, yet there is order and discipline among them in the ranks. Note the modulated store fronts and how they appear to be a smaller building unto themselves, sticking out of the lower levels all designed to lure one in.

The Treasury Annex neighborhood before the massive WPA project erased everything. Later it would become the War Transportation Department during WWII, under the direction of John E. Jacobsen.

I have never seen a more haunting photo of faces in windows 
while researching for this site. It is no error,  the monster that occupies 
719 12th Street (See previous post below) extends all the way to 729 11th
and this is what used to occupy the site. Such a mix of little building types,
 Italianate, Greek Revival, Federal...now it is a Macy's with clip-on 
concrete panels.
